Where you want to go today (like it or not): leisure practices in cyberspace

chapter
posted on 2023-07-26, 12:46 authored by Caroline Bassett, Chris Wilbert
The Internet itself, and the associated technologies which stand behind its development, emerged out of the Cold War (Rheingold 1994-). Later, the Net was opened up to the academy. Today, it is used as much for commercial, as for any other activity. At nearly all the stages in its history however, the Net has been used for leisure - albeit in different ways. Investigates informal leisure uses of technology, including developing home pages, building special interest sites, surfing the Net and participating in electronic communities.
