Abstract

This article uses Carrión’s The New Art of Books as a starting point to consider the relationship between time and space within artists' books. It draws on narrative theory as well as ideas about the nature of photographs and drawing to look at 3 different types of time: reading time, narrative time and time embedded in the making of images. Artists' books from a number of practitioners as well as Butler's own practice are used to explore and develop these concepts.
