Crime, Time and Gérôme's Death of Caesar

chapter
posted on 2023-07-26, 12:51 authored by Nina Lübbren
The chapter argues that Gerome pioneered a new mode of pictorial narration that did not rely on the human figure as narrative vehicle but mobilised inanimate objects, props and clues. It compares this mode with 19th-century detective fiction.
